About Nikkei of Peru

Meet the Owners

Lina Jong

A friendly, lively, familiar face at Nikkei of Peru. Previously, she expertly served at both Nobu and Nobu Next Door, both in Manhattan, at the same time.

Lina understands the very intricate process and flow of how restaurants become and remain successful. Our patrons love her easy-going demeanor, and they know that when Lina is in the house, they will get the royal treatment.

She is an integral part of the success of The Nikkei of Peru, using her expertise and personality to keep everything running smoothly for the most enjoyable experience of exquisite food matched with relaxed dining pleasure.

Chef Asa Jong
Co-Owner

Educated under Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa, Chef Asa Jong has created his own path, with lightning speed in the fusion world of Nikkei Cuisine.

Chef Asa puts his special Tatchi (touch) on each and every plate that passes to our dining family.

Born on the tropical beach island of Belitung, just east of Sumatra, Chef Asa was schooled in fishing for survival by his Japanese grandfather.

At 19, Chef Asa made his journey to the USA, where he washed dishes and waited tables to sustain him, while surrounding himself in the restaurant arena. Moving quickly to sushi helper, and by using his days off to practice on self-caught fish, Chef Asa honed his skills and earned his own leading position in Manhattan’s high-end sushi-fusion world.

What is Nikkei?

Also known as the “Diaspora of Japan,” the Nikkei are Peruvian citizens with origin from Japan.

The single most evident manifestation of Japan’s historical influence in Peru is Nikkei Cuisine, the Japanese-Peruvian culture’s fusion food, which has swept the culinary capitals of Europe. This result has been labeled the Japanese-Peruvian “Love Child,” as a result of the unique way that the two cultures have come together to produce a new Japanese-Peruvian Culinary Culture, also known as “Nikkei Cuisine.”

Using young, dynamic “Mom & Pop Philosophy,” The Nikkei of Peru has re-instilled into today’s neighborhood restaurant, a platform of quality and care that can only be found in the major cities of Europe, South America, and now in the NY Metro area. Enjoy the fruits of “The Nikkei” and see what resulted when the great master culinary capital of Japan, fused together, through it’s immigrant people to Peru, to naturally create an explosive new cuisine, and one that has based it’s philosophy to include:

  • Japanese cuisine that is Peruvian-Inspired

  • An easy modern feel to enjoy the fruits and knowledge of The Nikkei

  • Unique and hard to find accented dishes and beverages

  • The warmth of true hospitality that has seemed to all but disappear today

  • Mom & Pop personal customer care

“Amazing…so much so, that I can’t eat sushi anywhere else!!! The staff is friendly and attentive…ALWAYS. Highly Recommended!!
